Investigations against Hawai`i attorneys mostly begin based upon complaints (initially called “grievances”) submitted in writing by an individual.  However, investigations also may be self-initiated by ODC.

Past summaries of private informal admonitions appear in the Hawai`i Bar Journal.  The summaries provide guidance regarding the type of unprofessional conduct which may result in an informal admonition.

Under the Supreme Court Rules ODC cannot reveal an attorneys non-public disciplinary history.
